Pastor Den Slattery lives with his wife Karen and their youngest daughter Holly. Karen is a college math teacher, but was trained in Deaf Education. She helps out in the Church by editing the newsletter, running the children's program, doing children's sermons, and playing the piano during worship services--among other things.
Pastor Den is a retired Army Chaplain who served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He frequently speaks at Veterans events, churches, retreats, prisons, jails, and for the military. Den loves teaching the Bible and leading people to Christ. In his spare time Den teaches outdoor survival, goes fishing, writes books, and lreading good books while drinking Starbucks Coffee. For the last 10 years Den has been helping to lead the annual Maranatha Christian Writers Conference held in Muskegon, Michigan each Fall (See www.writewithpurpose.org).
What follows is Den's story of how he went from being an atheist to a Christian. It's a great story.
THE MOST POWERFUL VERSE

Until 1968 my life had been dominated by the all American dream of pursuing personal happiness. However, the day came when I was challenged to abandon that goal by an old friend who stopped by to tell me about his adventures in a far away land. His story sounded so interesting that I immediately began making my own arrangements for a similar trip. Two weeks later I got on a plane for San Diego, California. From the airport I was escorted to my new home away from home - - the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot (MCRD). After 13 weeks of Boot Camp, five weeks of Advanced Infantry Training, and three weeks of Jungle-Survival Training, I was sent to the land of adventure my friend had spoken of. . . Vietnam. Cindy is a wonderful addition to the LeValley U.M.C. staff. She performs a wide variety of secretarial duties daily and conducts each task with great determination, devotion, and dedication.

She has been with the LeValley United Methodist Church for many years and accompanies the church choir, worship service and special services with sincere dedication and devotion!
